South African Artist
Godfrey Sipho Ndaba was born in 1947 in Soweto, Johannesburg and has lived in Soweto all his life. He was one of eleven children. The Guru tribe were originally known as the "Kweni", but during 1906 - 1912 after they were brutally colonized by invading French colonials, the dominant Baule people of the region subsequently named them the Guru tribe. Sacred Guru masks, delicately crafted and colourful are used and honored during religous gatherings, funerals, and celebrations.
