Batik Workshop
Renowned Ugandan artist Nuwa Wamala Nnyanzi will be teaching a class on Batik making here at Gems of Africa Gallery during the National Black Arts Festival.
We are still working on the dates, and will let you know as soon as he completes his itinerary. (we are shooting for Sunday, August 2, 2009 at 4:300pm).
The cost of the class will be around $65 which will include all of your materials and supplies and you will leave the class with your finished batik. Register now!!!

CELEBRATE US every hour, every day and all weekend at the National Black Arts Festival 2009.
This year's Festival will take place at the Woodruff Arts Center; the South's most dynamic visual and performing arts center.
Festival highlights include the International Marketplace, July 31st through August 2nd with artists and vendors from around the world; a Literary Salon and workshops covering everything from collecting jazz to writing screenplays.
NBAF will be shutting down 15th Street, adjacent to the Woodruff Arts Center, for an old-fashioned "block party" with many fantastic Stage performances. Learn more...

America I Am: The African American Imprint

America I AM: The African American Imprint is a four-year touring museum exhibition that will celebrate 400 years of African American contributions to this country. The exhibition presents a historical continuum of pivotal moments in courage, conviction and creativity that solidifies the undeniable imprint of African Americans across the nation and around the world.
The average visit to the exhibition is 90 minutes.
Photography of any kind is not permitted inside the Exhibition.

If you are an emerging or mid-career visual artist with a unique, powerful voice that demands a bigger stage- well...Here it is:
Bravo is casting for a new show for emerging and semi-established visual artists. Magical Elves (Peabody Award-winning Project Runway, Emmy Award-winning Top Chef) and Sarah Jessica Parker (Golden Globe & Emmy Award-winner) and her production company, Pretty Matches, are teaming up for an hour-long creative competition series among aspiring contemporary artists who will create and compete to conquer the art world!
They want contemporary artists. your medium should be one of Many (or several of many) painting, sculpture, installation, video, photography or mixed media. They want artists that believe in their art and want the world to know.
