Telephone Wire Baskets

Using the same techniques as were used to weave reed baskets from grasses and palm leaf, these colorful Zulu Imbenge Baskets are woven entirely of "recycled" telephone wire.  These baskets are boldly colorful and strongTelephone Wire Baskets

Indigenous to Zululand, telephone wire designs have grown into an internationally recognized art form and serve as a much-needed source of income for Zulu artisans living in impoverished rural areas.

Pianist Arturo O'Farrill's Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, now known as the Afro-Cuban Big Band, brings together 18 prominent soloists from the Latin Jazz scene. Ol Malo Trust is a charitable trust set up in response to the great hardships caused by the drought that ravaged Kenya between 1999-2001 - the country's worst drought in living memory. Whole regions were devastated by the disaster, but none more so than the dry, desert wilderness of Samburuland, where the Samburu lost most of their cattle and therefore the major part of their livelihood.
