David Twala

David Twala was born in Johannesburg on 4/4/1952 and was the eldest of 5 children.  He grew up in Mofolo North Soweto.  He was encouraged from the age of 10 by his Mother Julia to copy interesting figures from newspapers and magazines.  He created a statue for the fish pond in the school grounds, and made a pulpit for Assembly (Assisted by the 1981 Art Students) and was always called on to design the school's badge and garden.  He also created the posters, cards, teachers aids, banners, illustrations and special lists for schools, churches, societies and clubs, health centers and society at large.  David taught for a number of years with commitment, loyalty, distinction, dignity, morale and self discipline.

ACHIEVEMENTS 
Ethnic Art Mural Design Competition 1975 first prize. 
Castle Lager Black Designers a place in 1991. 
Artist of the year college 1975. 
Best displayed classroom illustrations and teaching Aids 1985. 
Voted instructor of the year 1985. 
Presented Mr. Walter Sisulu ANC with his own portrait on behalf of the school 1995. 
Assisted pupils in winning major prizes and awards in several art competitions for Kelloggs, Wimpy, and SPCA. and an annual Science Expo for years 1980-1996.
