Godfrey Chatambarara

Godfrey was born in April 1954 and is married with two children.  While attending school in Mbare, Godfrey liked to paint.  But once he discovered the Nyarutsetso art Center where he saw men sculpting in stone, he gave up the paintbrush for the solid tools of carving.  Godfrey's abstracts usually depict people at work and he has developed his own distinctive style.  His animal carvings are especially remarkable, capturing motion and form with exceptional skill.  Godfrey has exhibited in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Singapore and the U.S.A.
