Sipho Mwe Mwe

Sipho Mwe Mwe was born in Tembisa township in 1948.  After he finished school he worked as a file clerk in an insurance firm in Benoni.  In his spare time he would sketch the people who lived around him such as the musicians, the hawkers, the sangomas and the children playing in the streets.  One of the supervisors in the firm suggested that he try and sell his works to galleries in Johannesburg and on the East Rand.  He did so with great success.  Buyers found his works fascinating and different from other artists.  Sipho mainly works in chalk or pastels and has also attempted watercolor on paper.
